I was one of four children raised by our dear mother in Richmond. She taught me to do what is right rather than what is popular. This has been my guiding principle through my career and will influence my drive to continue to make Richmond a proud community to call home.

I have been a highly visible leader with a history of planning, implementing, and completing large-scale projects that have influenced drug and protective service policies. I am acknowledged as a key architect and unfailing champion of accountability approaches that represents the future of public safety worldwide. My fortitude, innovation, and leadership skills have elevated criminal justice benchmarks, developed sustainable human talent, and strengthened stakeholder relationships.

Since his first patrol with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) in 1979, Kash has served the citizens of British Columbia for more than 43 years, primarily focused on crime prevention and public safety.

After holding a series of high-profile commands in the fields of gang and drug enforcement with the VPD, Kash was West Vancouver’s Chief Constable for two years before being elected to the BC Legislature in 2009 as the MLA for Vancouver-Fraserview. Immediately after, Kash was appointed to serve as BC’s Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General.

Kash has lived in Richmond for the past 56 years where he is raising his 14 year old daughter Ella.  He holds a Master’s Degree from Simon Fraser University (SFU)’s School of Criminology and an SFU Bachelor of General Studies degree in the field of Leadership in Public Safety.
